MD/PhD program, a NIH-funded joint degree program geared towards training the future leaders of clinical medicine
and medical research.

training, graduating with highest honors in 2004. While in medical school, Dr. Ali received numerous awards,
including recognition by the Alpha Omega Alpha society a well as receiving the prestigious John L. Prohaska
Award given to the medical student with the highest potential for excellence in clinical medicine, research,
and teaching.
After graduating from medical school in 2004, Dr. Ali left The University of Chicago to pursue residency
training in Orthopedic Surgery at the world renown Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. At Mayo Clinic, Dr. Ali
studied the non-operative and operative care of orthopedic problems during his five years of training. His
final year of training was focused on solely on orthopedic trauma surgery and spine surgery. Upon completing
his orthopedic surgery residency, Dr. Ali successfully passed Part I of the Orthopedic Surgery Examination in
July 2009, thus becoming a Board-Eligible orthopedic surgeon.
After completing his orthopedic surgery residency and passing his board examination in 2009, Dr. Ali moved
back to Chicago to pursue additional training in orthopedic spinal surgery at Rush University. One of the
first and most renown spine fellowship in the world, Dr. Ali learned all aspects of non-operative and operative
spine care in adult and pediatric patients. During this time, he was involved in patient care at Rush University
Medical Center as well as the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Chicago, IL. Upon completing his fellowship, he
joined OAD Orthopedics in the western suburbs of Chicago, a physician-owned orthopedic practice with a reputation
for excellence in the care of spinal disorders.
Specializing in non-operative and operative care of neck and back disorders, Dr. Ali has been practicing spine
surgery in the western suburbs of Chicago since August 2010. In July 2012, Dr. Ali successfully passed Part II
of the Orthopedic Board Examination, thus becoming board certified in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Ali is known in
the medical community for his thorough history-taking, precise examination skills, attentive ears, and his
vigorous belief in patient education. He is also known as a conservative surgeon who believes in surgery as
a last report option and only believes in as little surgery as necessary to address the patient's condition.
In pursuit of improving on his successful non-operative and operative management history of back and neck
disorders, Dr. Ali has partnered with Rezin Orthopedics & Sports Medicine - the leader in Orthopedic care
in the Illinois River Valley region over the last 20 years - to create the Deerpath Spine Institute. This
Institute - headed by Dr. Ali - is an independent physician-owned comprehensive spine care center with a
coordinated system of medical pain management, physical therapy, interventional pain management (spinal
injection treatments), as well as surgical treatments available as necessary. Most importantly, the
Deerpath Spine Institute embodies Dr. Ali's philosophy of spending adequate time with each patient,
explaining his/her condition in terms he/she can understand, discussing treatment options together in a
team-oriented manner, and recommending surgery only when all other options have failed.
