If you are one of approximately 100 million Americans living with back pain, Illinois SpineCare and Diagnostics may be able to provide a solution to restore health and quality of life. Neck or back pain, one of the most common ailments today, can easily lead to recurring problems if not managed early and appropriately.

Illinois SpineCare and Diagnostics, provides a comprehensive approach to treatment of spine disorders, including physical medicine specialists, spine surgeons, and radiologists, as well as a full range of therapists and other health care professionals. Illinois SpineCare and Diagnostics specializes in rapid evaluation and treatment, with proven results and high patient satisfaction — all provided at one location.

Illinois SpineCare and Diagnostics is led by Dr. Jason Franklin, a physiatrist (fiss ee at’ trist). Physiatrists are doctors who are certified as specialists in rehabilitation medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Franklin treats medical conditions that can cause pain or limit function. Also called physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, physiatrists provide a full spectrum of care – from diagnosis to treatment and rehabilitation.

What is so special about these specialists? After completing medical school and obtaining a Medical Doctor degree, Physiatrists study four more years in postdoctoral residency training. The purpose of this extra training is to make sure that Physiatrists are focused on the patient as a whole person. Most physicians deal with illness and possible threats to life. The Physiatrist deals with functional loss and threats to living fully – the physical conditions remaining after initial medical or surgical treatment.

“People want to take control of their health and want health care professionals to work with them to do that, " said Jason Franklin, D.O. “My goal at Illinois SpineCare and Diagnostics is to coordinate care with our patients to get them back where they belong … living a healthy and active life.”

Dr. Franklin works in tandem with a team of other health professionals in developing and carrying out a comprehensive rehabilitation plan. This rehabilitation team may include the physicians of Rezin Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, specifically Dr. Kevin Draxinger, a fellowship-trained spine surgeon. Illinois SpineCare and Diagnostics also relies on the physical therapists at Vital Care Physical Therapy Centers to provide a full spectrum of therapy and a clinical team of nurses and technologists.

Dr. Franklin’s success comes through a team effort where the patient is an integral part of the team process. Each improvement in function, however subtle, can significantly improve the life of a patient.
